Kenai River Silver Salmon Fishing

The Kenai River silver salmon have helped us put lots of smiles on guests’ faces over the years. The beginning of August we start catching silvers off the bank while we’re fishing for sockeye with a limit of 2. August 16th we start fishing in the boat for silvers using a combination of things. We're allowed to cast spinners, back bounce, and troll with plugs so you’ll end up with some pinks. They only come in on even years so plan accordingly.

The first run of silvers starts showing up the last week of July, which are usually around the size of the sockeye salmon (8-12 lbs). Some years the first run of silvers overlap the second run at the end of August.

Second runs of silver salmon are usually doing good around the 5th of September. Starting Sept 1st the limit goes to 3 silvers and they are usually bigger, we have a record for our lodge at 21 lbs.
